About Gordale Scar
A limestone ravine near Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. Overhanging cliffs over 100 m high flank the narrow gorge. It may have formed from glacial meltwater or a collapsed cave. A waterfall tumbles through a hole in the rock. Painted by James Ward and celebrated in a sonnet by Wordsworth.
