About Fraser Canyon

A long canyon carved by the Fraser River through the mountains of British Columbia. At Hells Gate the river squeezes through a gap about 35 m wide. A 1914 rockslide caused by railway construction blocked salmon runs until fishways were built in the 1940s. The 1858 Fraser Canyon Gold Rush drew thousands of prospectors. Two transcontinental railways and the Trans-Canada Highway follow it.
