About Hells Canyon
The deepest river gorge in North America at 2,436 m, deeper than the Grand Canyon. Carved by the Snake River along the Idaho and Oregon border. Protected as the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area since 1975. Three hydroelectric dams sit at its upper end. The Nez Perce people lived in the canyon for thousands of years. Popular for whitewater rafting and jet boat trips.
