About Studlagil Canyon
A canyon in eastern Iceland lined with spectacular hexagonal basalt columns. It was little known until the Karahnjukar hydropower dam upstream, completed in the late 2000s, lowered the Jokla river. With glacial silt held back, the water often runs clear blue green in summer. It quickly became one of the most photographed sites in Iceland.
